This was the one I'd been waiting for. Ever since I'd started collecting Pirate lego as a kid... Of course we only went to Legoland for our kids... of course... you believe me don't you?
Anyway Pirate Land had me asking, quite seriously, if it was possible to die of a nerd attack.
There were a handful of rides and plenty of statues and scenery scattered around. One of the things I really loved about Legoland were the small details - the statues scattered around, the Lego birds on poles, the random Lego rats on barrels etc:

He wasn't expecting visitors.. - Lucky he had a hat. Notice the parrot is covering its eyes... |
Pirate lookout over a shop |
Pirate Band |
Lego dog at the feet of the band |
Close up of the banjo player |
Playing the bottle |
Pirates on a fort / shop |
Spread throughout Legoland were Q-Codes that the Legoland app scavenger hunt used. We had good fun on the second day hunting them down - they unlocked a download of a game. Here's the first one we found in Pirate Land:

Q-Code |
The aforementioned rats on barrels |
And what rats would they be if they didn't hang near the Blue Cheese Tavern |
Some hungover pirates |
Ok so, onto the rides:
Pirate Wave Breaker:
This was a swinging pirate ship ride with a twist in that the boat also rotated left and right -
Pirate Wave Breaker |
Lighthouse:
A test-your-strength ride where you pulled at the ropes to hoist yourself up the lighthouse, I didn't hate my family enough to force them to go on this one with me...
The Pelican crew |
The Lighthouse |
Pirate Carousel
This was a spinning cup ride in pirate barrels. We didnt have any photos of it, so here's the one from the Legoland site of a poor kid that got stuck on with some creepy guy he didn't know, but who had candy (apparently.)

Pirate Carousel |
Pirate Water Falls:
These were two water play parks that were closed on the day due to the weather:
From the Lego site |
Pirate Splash Battle:
Unfortunately this one was closed due to the weather - it was a lovely warm 10 degrees C so I'm not sure why... The riders travel on boats firing water cannons at each other and at targets. There are even spots that they can fire at, or be fired on by, the crowd.
Splash Battle |
Pirate Ship |
Cast-Aways |
Governor's fort (note the targets) |
Skull rock and treasure island |
Even the rats got a shot |
Pirate Boat:
This was the ride that nearly killed me with an acute case of nerdism. This was a scenic boat ride through a pirate cave and sea battle. Between us we took 162 photos in this ride..
Sharks and Governor's fort |
The castaway. He annoyed Tomas by continually singing out "Helllloooo, hello!" |
Jaws' more bricky cousin |
Kris loved the Turtles |
The Governors' Fort |
Preparing gunpowder |
The fisherman and the hiding pirate |
Captain Brickbeard |
The prisoner has the map |
The crocodile below is eating his shoe. Tomas yelled out "Just drop him already!" |
Nice place for a nap |
And now onto the bit that nerded me out completely! A governor ship vs a pirate fort. The OCD nerd in me did notice that the ship the governor's men was on appeared to be the Blackseas Barracuda which is actually a pirate ship and the big ship I have at home - I have a good mind to write a letter of complaint to Legoland, but then I look at the picture and nerd-out and can't do it...
The Lego Blackseas Barracuda |
The governor's ship |
The pirate fort |
Pirate cannon boat |
Pirates plotting in a cave |
Creepy bowlegged pirate - "Come, follow me and see my puppy." |
Alana took this shot - I'm not sure what the heck it is, but it looked cool so I wanted to add it. |
Escaping with the loot |
To the stash |
Preparing dinner - the woman on the far left is plucking a chicken |
Pirate tavern |
Note the baby crocodile on a leash |
The tavern band |
When you're so drunk you go home with a turtle and a donkey |
Then you get that urge to scrub really well... |
And that was all for pirate land. As the boat came in to dock, one of the staff dressed as a pirate leaped onto the front of the boat and attacked the kids with his sword. For a moment I expected Tom to push him into the water, but he (and we) survived.
Onwards to the Wild West! Legorado town...
