Legoland - 19-Mar Part 11 - Polar Land

Polar Land was a new area with a couple of thrill rides and a Penguin Habitat.  Kris spent some time watching the penguins while I took the kids on the ride.

Just chillin' (sorry)

Rides:
Polar Explorer
This is a rollercoaster with a big drop.  It stops at one point and you see a movie of some people climbing ice, then the coaster drops about 6 feet straight down before ending up behind the penguins.  The queue has lots of signs about conservation and protection of animals.  It says that you should look out for certain animals as we ride so you can 'save' them.

I pointed this out to Tomas and he said "I'm not going to save any animals." When I said that was a little sad he elaborated - "This is a roller coaster.  If it was just saving animals I would save them, if it was just a roller coaster that's fine too.  But I'm not having a roller coaster and saving animals, they need to make up their mind."

Ice Pilot School
The concept of this ride was pretty cool.  On entry you are given a smart card and you scan it on a computer.  You then pick a speed (green or orange) and then it presents 13 different movements - spins, rocking, twists etc.  You pick a handful of moves and then it saves them to the card.  You then head up and get buckled in the the robot arm runs through the moves you do, so essentially you program your own ride.  Alana went with Cam, Kris went with (to) the penguins and I went with Tom... Well that was the plan.  Only problem was that the safety harness wouldn't lock over my shoulders.  In the end I had to step out and one of the crew asked if Tom wanted him to go with him.  The guy was great and Tom had a ball.  Cam came off looking a little green.

My photos are a bit poor due to the darkness

Penguin Bay
It's not really a ride but one of the highlights of the area was the Penguin display.
