First we needed to find a place to stay - we started looked online but for 2 nights stay we were looking at around 3000kr (about AUD$500) and there wasn't a lot available for 5 people. We'd had a suggestion about checking out Air BnB so we had a look. We found a perfect place that was available and almost half the price of the hotels. I messaged the owner, but I got a message an hour later that she had meant to block the date out as she had visitors. Next we found another good place, but this time we didn't get a reply from the owner and the 24 hr window expired. By now we were almost at Thursday lunch time and still didn't have a place. There was one more option on Air BnB but 2 hours later we got an email that they had also forgot to book out the dates as they were using the property.
In the end we settled for CityBox Oslo - it ended up being about 3000kr for the two nights but that was one of the cheapest places in Oslo. The room was a double bed, a bunk and a camp bed with a bathroom but it worked perfectly for somewhere to sleep.
With that booked we now needed to plan the trip out there. Since we had 6 hours drive ahead of us, we decided to leave around 3pm. Tomas was at a birthday party (it was a week off school so the kids had no school), so Kris picked me up from work and we went to get Tomas.
The drive was pretty much just down a freeway so it wasn't too exciting but as we got nearer to Oslo it got really dark. The Swedish streets don't have reflectors or cats-eyes like in Australia so the streets were really dark. It was 7:00pm and it felt like midnight:

We stopped at Max for dinner and we were treated to a flock of birds circling over the carpark:
