Skanör and Ystad - Part 1 - Skanor Beach - Feb 13th

Today we decided to get out and about and Kristine chose our destination.  She decided that we were going to head down to Skanör in the south of Skane, as we'd headed north almost every other trip.

Location of Skanor and Ystad

After Skanör, we were going to head across to Ystad (we'd been there once before to see the Ales Stenar stones, but didn't get much of a look around the town).

Skanör is famous for a big harbour, a medieval church and a beach.  It is apparently quite a popular site in summer, but when we went to head out, it was still snowing:

I've captured the drive in a timelapse video - see my previous post.

When we got to the beach the kids immediately got into a snowball fight:

First Blood!

Incoming!
Revenge!

And again!
Splat! - You messed with the wrong person Cameron!

When we finally shook all the snow off, we headed down to the beach.

There were plenty of multicoloured sheds that we believe are private storage rooms and change sheds for when summer:

The photos above just show a small sample (and they're all different ones) - there were probably a hundred of them scattered just behind the snow covered sand dunes.

Heading down to the beach
The beach was pretty calm but cold.  There was a small jetty heading out into the water that made for some very nice shots.  Tomas was worried he was going to fall to his death (about 2 feet down into 1 foot of water) as there was only one side rail.  The following is a few of the beach shots that Kris and I took - hers are the better looking ones as she used her good camera and tripod, I used my phone:

Venturing out onto the jetty

And here's the shot showing how impressed Tomas was with the whole thing

Looking down the coast

Warning sign that the kids thought was hilarious - 'Grunt' means 'Shallow' in Swedish. "Why does he have a cross on his head?" - Alana, Tomas - "He must have grunted so they crossed him out."

The last of my shots - Now the expert photographer (and her apprentice) set up....
And sets up...
Kris - "Stay at the end of the jetty so I can line up a shot."  - it was bloody cold!

A very impressive building on the shore

And Kris came up to join us
After the beach we came across S:t Olof's Kyrka (St Olof's Church) a medieval church that has some parts dating to the 13th century - see my next post.
