Stadsbibliotek (13-Mar)

This post is out of order mostly due to me being too lazy to drag the photos off of my camera.

Stadsbibliotek
On Sunday March 13th we decided to go and check out the Malmö Town Library (Stadsbibliotek).  The building itself was very impressive, 110 years old (opened December 1905) and named "The Castle".  It now has over 550,000 different media, 10,000 DVDs and 33,500 CDs.

Approaching the corner of the building

The first thing we noticed as we walked up to the building was the automatic sorting machine - the books are dropped into collection boxes at the entrance and then run along a conveyor under the floor.  They then pass through into the collection area where their barcodes are scanned and they are dropped into a series of trolleys to be sorted:

The main kids area was under repair so we went to a small kids area to start with, and Tomas found an old friend:

We also found this rather odd poster:

Once we passed into the main western wing of the library we were greeted by many rows of bookshelves and a pretty impressive set of small library floors:

The sign "Malmös Många Sprak" means "Malmö's many languages".  The library had books in many different languages, and plenty in English.  Cam was also excited to see that they hired out video games.

Behind where I was standing when I took the above photos were more shelves and a massive wall of glass windows:

Tomas was excited to find this travel guide book

We also found another kids area with plenty of books to read and cushions, toys are play areas.  Alana made herself a nest/cubby house and was happy reading until a young girl decided to sneak dinosaurs past the cushions to pretend to eat her.  Oh and Tomas sat on the front and collapsed it all..

On the way out Alana found a friend who reminded her of Oscar (our dog who is staying with my Mum in Australia):

Oscar? Is that you?
