We arrived in Helsinki at about 9:30am and stored our luggage at the train station so we could explore Helsinki.
Tomas testing out the luggage locker |
No Capital is complete without nude blacksmiths beating on an anvil |
The Magnum store in Helsinki - Sadly I only found out that this was a "Make your own Magnum" ice-cream shop, so we missed out! |
Another blacksmith but this one has clothes. |
We took a tram ride around the town to catch a few of the sights:
Ateneum Art Museum |
Statues at Central Station |
I loved the tower on this otherwise unremarkable building |
Statue to Elias Lönnrot - a Finnish physician, philologist and collector of traditional Finnish oral poetry |
Our next stop was the very impressive Helsinki Cathedral. This is the Helsingin Tuomiokirkko and in Swedish Helsingfors Domkyrka. It's a Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral, built in 1830

Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral |
The market |
Lots of fresh fruit |
Under attack! |
We then headed back to our hotel. Kristine went out with our friends while I watched the kids (and Netflix). The next day we were ready to go to our next destination - the island fortress Suomenlinna before our trip to Tallinn.
