USA Trip (12th Sep - 8th Oct) - Day 6 - Ann Arbor

After a slower start to the morning, we decided to head south about an hour to Ann Arbor, home of the University of Michigan. The University was founded in 1817 and is a research university (one that focuses on academic research in addition to teaching). It consists of four Campuses - North, North Medical, Ross Athletic and Central -  spreading over 3.48km2.

The main focus for the boys (Alana stayed at the house) was the Stadium of the Michigan Wolverines, a college football team in the Div 1 Football Bowl Subdivision. The Michigan Stadium has a capacity of 107,601 and is the 34th largest sports venue (third largest stadium) in the world and the largest in the United States. It was built in 1927 and cost $950,000 (about $13.8million at current rates).

The Stadium was closed, but we managed to get some good photos of the outside and of the Crisler Center next to it - home of the Michigan Wolverines Basketball Team (NCAA Div 1):

We then drove into town and visited the Fan Shop, which was a big two story building and had some interesting overalls:

From there we walked through the University grounds to have lunch at Raising Cane's - a fast food restaurant famous for its fried chicken and sauce:

Once we finished up there, we headed back to the house to pick up Alana and went to meet family at my cousin Deb's house in Saginaw. My Dad and Stepmum were there as well as my Grandfather and number of the family from my great-aunt Nathalie's side of the family. We were well fed and it was great to catch the family again. We also saw some deer as we approached the house:

This guy was just chilling on the side of the road.
