Return to Tivoli (8-May)

Another beautiful day and we decided to head back to Copenhagen and the Tivoli Gardens amusement park.

On the way we walked past the Copenhagen University Library building, which was pretty impressive:

Once we arrived at Tivoli we purchased ride passes.  This was our third visit to Tivoli, but the first time that it wasn't themed (first was Halloween and second was Christmas).  It was also the first time that all the rides were running.

The kids were desperate to go on the mountain ride, which was a roller coaster built in 1914.  It was pretty cool, Tomas spent the first time through screaming the whole time (he told me after it was because you're supposed to scream on roller coasters) and then the second time he laughed maniacally because he said it was no longer scary (but his laugh was).

The next ride was the Mine (Minen) which was an indoor dark ride with targets to shoot.  Alana got the highest score on this one and was pretty happy with herself.

Next was the pirate ride, which was a spinning ride:

We then spent some time walking around and checking out the park, the flowers were in full bloom and very pretty:

The kids were keen to keep going on rides so we hit up the Odin Express Roller Coaster, which was a bit wilder than the Mountain.

Next came The Nautilus which was a spinning ride that allowed the riders to raise or lower the carriages.  I got to ride with Tomas who continually moved the car up and down, which left me feeling a little queezy by the end.

Having a break

After a quick break for some water and biscuits, the kids were eager to go on the Demon ride.  This was a big step up from what we had previously ridden - it had a loop-the-loop and an inverted corkscrew.  Alana decided that she was too young to die and opted out, but Cameron and Tomas dragged me up the stairs.

The Demon Loop-the-Loop

Cameron bet me that he would only scream three times, I bet him that he would scream four times.  At the end of the ride he told me that we both lost and he only screamed once, but it was for the entire ride.  Tomas kept his eyes shut and was a little shaky when he got off, but they both loved it.  My highlight was Cameron shouting "We didn't die!" as we walked down the stairs at the exit.

We then headed over the lake, where people were feeding the fish and birds.  Kris and I watched while the kids ran on the play equipment and climbing nets:

Tomas was first out of the play area - "I've explored everywhere in there" so he went on a helicopter ride next door.  Alana and Cameron then trickled out and joined him.  I think they took four rides total:
Helicopters (the ride is called Lighthouse)
The next ride was the Temple Tower where the riders pulled themselves up by hoisting ropes.  The kids all hopped on and Alana flew her way up the tower, reaching the top before most of the other riders were halfway:

Cameron reached the top shortly after and then Tom got the hang of it and made it up also.

It was hard work!
The final ride of the day was a mini tower drop ride called the Panda.

On the way out, we passed the lake again and saw an interesting sight.  In the wooden aqueduct leading to the waterwheel, were a duck and several ducklings:

We got ourselves a slushy and on the way to the exit we bumped into the marching band.  The kids enjoyed it, but Tomas was annoyed that the marching kids had guns.

All-in-all it was a great day and a great long weekend, but we were all exhausted when we got home.
