Today we drove up to Abisko in Lapland, 250km inside the Article Circle. Our main aim was the Aurora Sky Station, however there were no cable cars available, so we settled for the Tourist centre.
Unfortunately we didn't manage to catch the Northern Lights, as Abisko is one of the best places to catch them, however we did enjoy walking around the area.

Heading north out of Kiruna |
Our first stop was the Tourist Centre in Abisko, but this seemed mostly set up as a hostel and meeting point for tour groups and there wasn't much other than a small souvenir shop. However, the view was great! (except for the caravans)
We then moved a few minutes up the road to the Abisko Tourist Centre.
We then decided to take the 'Canyon' walk to see the canyon that one one of the reasons that Abisko natural park became a protected area.
The picture from the website looks pretty awesome in Summer, but it is very different, but just as cool, in winter:

The way down was pretty icy so there were a few minor falls - and of course we took pictures instead of helping |

The view down into the canyon |
The view towards the lake was pretty impressive also

We hung around for a little to check for the Northern Lights but had no luck, so we headed back home for dinner.
