Iceland (5-Nov to 12th Nov) - Part 2 - Arrival

We landed in Iceland around 3pm and got our car.  It took us a while to get our bearing, get our phone set to roaming so we could contact the person who was renting us their house (through AirBnB) but we managed to get it all sorted and arrived at the area by about 4:30.

Our first issue came from the fact that there were 12 large buildings and we were in one of them.  We knew the room number and that the keys were in the letterbox, but we didn't know which building to start looking in.  While Kris circled the carpark I checked a few building foyers before eventually ringing the host and finding the answer straight away.  Soon after, we were comfortably checked in and ready to move on.

I had booked us a refreshing dip at the Blue Lagoon for 7pm (30min drive away) and it was now edging onto 6pm so we decided to grab something to eat and then head out.  Iceland has few fast food chains (no McDonalds or Burger King) but we ended up finding a KFC for something quick to eat, or so we thought...

The line was massive and the service was pretty slow, so we ended up having the eat in the car and still arriving 20 minutes late to the Blue Lagoon.  It was pitch black when we arrived and about 2 degrees.  We were tired and grumpy, but the lagoon was awesome and put us in a great frame of mind for the holiday.  We couldn't take any pictures as it was way too dark - but we decided to return on the following Saturday before we flew out, and we have photos from them, so I'll leave describing the lagoon until the next visit.

The lagoon closed around 9pm and we dried off and then realized that we needed to find some groceries so we could have breakfast the following morning.  Most of the grocery stores were closed but we found a 24hr Netto store and managed to get some bread and milk.  It felt like a huge drive out there, but it turns out that it was only 15min from our house.

The place we were staying at was in Kópavogur, the second most populated area in Iceland and about 15min south of Reykjavik.

By the time we got home, we were exhausted and knew we had an early start the next day.
