Legoland & Ribe Viking Markets (28-Apr - 1-Mar)

This weekend was originally planned to be a drive to the Ribe Viking Markets on the west coast of Denmark.  Ribe hosts another of the viking centres, similar to Fotevikens but larger, and this week they were hosting a market and viking faire.  The original plan was to do it all in one day (the drive was about 3hrs each way so it was possible.)

Faced with 6hrs driving, we decided it might be nicer to stay somewhere for the night, so I searched up accommodation in the area and found that it was only an hour from Billund - where Legoland was.

So we ended up booking Friday and Saturday night at Legoland, with the plan to leave work on Friday, drive up and stay the night, visit the park Saturday, sleep there again Saturday night and then go to Ribe on Sunday.

As part of the accommodation deal, we got 2 day tickets for Legoland, but we were only going to be able to use one of them.  Then we found out that the Monday was actually a public holiday in Sweden so we had an extra day.  It would have been too expensive to stay at Legoland for another night (and most of the places were booked out) so we found a nice holiday park near Ribe and managed to get a night there on special for about 450DKK or $90.  So we'd visit the market on Sunday, drive out to the holiday park, spend a night there and then head back out to Legoland.  We'd leave the park a little early and make the drive back to Sweden ready for school and work the next day.  (Kristine had just picked up work at a School.)

For once it ran almost entirely to plan!

This was our second trip to Legoland, and there's a very comprehensive 13-page blog post from our last visit - Lego Land Trip #1.  So because of that, we didn't take the 3000 photos we took last time.  We mainly focused on new things or things that we didn't see as much the last time.

This time we were also armed with the Go-Pro camera with the aim of getting some videos of the rides.  After getting yelled at for using on the Viking River Splash, we hid it on Kristine for the Polar Express, but for some reason it didn't end up filming.  In the end, the kids used it for the ninja laser maze and that was the only use it got.

So here's our selection of photos from Legoland (viking markets after these):

Our first photo is of the Atlantis aquarium and Tomas' famous 'Fish Dab' (dabbing is a dance move):

I didn't get too many shots of DuploLand last year, so here's a few shots:

One of the rides we tried last time was the Ice Pilot School - it was a robot arm that could be programmed to do a variety of moves.  Somehow Tomas managed to convince Kristine to go on with him and I managed to get a few photos:

On Saturday it was Batman themed day, so the kids got to catch Lego Batman:

A new addition was a Lego X-Wing that the kids could sit in

There was also a new feature in the Miniland this year - Worlds Biggest Buildings:

The Legoland village had changed also, with the addition of a new Ninjago area and playground:

Our next stop was Ribe and the viking markets.  After wandering the markets for a while we wanted to make a purchase, but most places only took cash.  Since we dont tend to carry around Danish money we had to duck back to town to get to an ATM. On the way I got some photos of the church to compare with the one in Legoland:

Back end of the church - I didn't get many decent shots as Kris was lapping the block while I picked up the money (and it was hard to see through the stocking I'd pulled over my head to get the money (that was a joke for any slower people, please don't call the police))

The viking markets were pretty cool - there were lots of stalls and we came away with the pleasant, but slightly overpowering smell of woodsmoke.

BANG!

This was a game - the players each threw a piece of wood to land as close to the log as possible and then had to run and collect it, while the 'guard' had to hit them with a stick to 'tag' them
